Local pop-punk quintet Inept says goodbye to Chicago with an opening slot at Metro for alt-rockers Madina Lake before headlining a farewell gig at Beat Kitchen in December. Sugary choruses and a charged-up rhythm section made Inept totally adept at high-energy anthems, forming a not-so-distant cousin to Lucky Boys Confusion or Spitalfield. The departing group may not have transformed the pop-punk genre, but for a group of local boys, their shows had a lively atmosphere, easily capable of mindless fun. Don't feel bummed, Inept fans—the band's MySpace insists most of the members are moving on to form other bands, so when one band dies, others begin.
